How to tell if pineapple is ripe:
- Should be firm, but not rock solid
- Smell should be sweet (unripe pineapples won’t have a smell and overripe pineapples will have a vinegar-like scent)
- You should be able to pluck the leaves easily
- Color should be golden brown, with little green at the base
How to tell if cantaloupe is ripe:
- You should be able to press your thumb on the bottom easily
- Smell should be sweet
- Should feel heavier than unripe one
How to tell if mango is ripe:
- Should be soft to touch
- Smell should be sweet
- Should feel heavier than unripe one
How to tell if strawberries are ripe:
- Should be red throughout (top should not be white or greenish)
- Smell should be sweet
How to tell if watermelon is ripe:
- Should sound hollow when you “knock” on it.
- The flat spot (where it was sitting on the ground) should be yellowish (not white)
- Should feel heavier than unripe one
- Watermelons don’t ripen after being picked so try to choose a good one from the beginning!
How to tell if corn is ready to eat:
- Husk should be green
- “Silk” strings should be moist and sticking to kernels
How to tell if avocado is ripe:
- Should not be able to squish in hand, but not be rock solid either
- Depending on the type of avocado, may change color. (Hass avocados turn darker as they ripen.)
- Peel back the stem or cap; if its brown, its overripe. (You want to see yellowish-green)
How to tell if cherries are ripe:
- Stem should be attached
- Should feel firm and color should be dark
How to tell if eggplant is ready to eat:
- Stem should be green (not yellow or brown)
- Skin should be dark in color
- Skin should feel elastic and tight; if your hands leave imprints on the eggplant, its not ripe yet
How to tell if honeydew is ripe:
- Should be golden in color (not yellow)
How to tell if peach is ripe:
- Should be reddish and yellow in color (not green around the stem)
- Should smell sweet
